The return of Romelu Lukaku
Chelsea’s hunt for a goalscoring number
9 has taken them, via repeated efforts
to sign Erling Haaland, to former Chelsea
forward Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian
enjoyed a prolific campaign in Italy last
season, notching up 24 goals and
10 assists as he helped fire Inter Milan
to the title for the first time in a decade.
His exploits alerted Chelsea, who have
swooped in amidst Inter’s financial
crisis to negotiate a deal for the 28 year
old, thought to be in the region of 115
million euros (97 million pounds)
Despite having spent 45 million pounds
on Timo Werner last summer, Chelsea
are clearly of the opinion that another
goalscorer is needed, something that
the fact Jorginho finished as their top
goalscorer last season can attest to.
In Lukaku, they will be getting one
of the best, who has already excelled
in the Premier League and now in Serie A.

a Chelsea shirt
The excitement for the transfer was
turned up another notch on social media
today, as pictures of Lukaku holding
the new Chelsea home shirt surfaced
on twitter.
Amid rumours that the signing
could be announced tomorrow (Tuesday),
there are some fans that even believe
the forward could be in line to play in
the super cup tie against Villareal next
Wednesday.
Will Lukaku prove to be a hit in west
London second time around?
