Former Arsenal striker Paul Merson


 believes Manchester United should 


make Graham Potter their next coach.





Ralf Rangnick is currently in interim 


charge but they have seen little in the 


way of performance or results as they 


begin to lose touch in the race for 


the top four.



Fans are becoming more disgruntled 


with the club's situation and Merson thinks


 that Potter would be a good choice 


and fit for the club and it would be a step


 up from Brighton, where he manages


 now.



"I am a big fan of his," Merson told 


Sky Sports. "I think he plays brilliant


 football.



"If I was Manchester United, then I 


would be watching Potter. The way 


they play their football. They haven't 


got the quality of Man United players. 


And they play great football.



"If I was Man United. I would be 


monitoring him. I would think "why


 not go for him?"



Merson, however, doesn't see the 


Old Trafford club making a move 


for Potter as he won't be a big enough


 name for the managers role at such a 


club.



"They won't because he's not a 


name. It's as simple as that," 


Merson added.



"Then, the Man United fans will be 


like "why are we getting somebody 


from Brighton for?". And that's how 


it works. I think he's outstanding."



If United do want Potter, they could 


have to act fast, with Everton on the 


hunt for a new boss having sacked 


Rafael Benitez on Sunday.

 Anthony Elanga has signed a new deal with  Manchester United, which will keep him at the  club until June 2026, with the option to extend  for another year.  Elanga, 19, joined United's Academy when  he was 12 years old and has already made five  appearances for the first squad. Last season,  the Sweden Under-21 international scored  in only his second Premier League game, a  2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.  According to Anthony Elanga,  "Playing for Manchester United has always  been my greatest goal." Although the quality is  exceedingly high, this deal represents another  significant milestone in my career. With world- class players and coaches to learn from every  day, this is the ideal atmosphere to take the  next step. I am ecstatic that the Club has showed  such faith in my progress, and I want to express  my gratitude to my family and the entire team.

 Manchester United will begin the New Year  with a newfound mental focus.  Ole Gunnar Solskajer is out, and Ed Woodward's  time at Old Trafford is about to a close, but  that isn't the only upheaval in the northwest.  Ralf Rangnick is the interim manager, and he  now faces a crucial transfer window in which  he must perform flawlessly if United is to  regain Champions League status.  There are various parts of the Red Devils' roster  that might use some work, but it's the defense  that needs the most attention.  Raphael Varane was signed by Solskjaer  in the summer, but he's had an injury-plagued  stay in England since arriving from Real Madrid.  Harry Maguire, on the other hand, remains  enigmatic and divisive. He hasn't played like  the most expensive player in the world, despite  costing £80 million.
